I am NOT a gamer, just the average guy, email, create web sites and programing, some graphics. But I do like power (lol). can you point me in the right direction of what model or series I should look at, and what models to stay away from because of problems, Thx in advance

the reason I didn't put on other fourm, is I wanted to get a good opinion on a sony, there they would recomend all others, mainly HP. sorry if this wrong, thx

You should considering getting one of the three newly released Vaio's with intel montevina chipset, they are Z (13.1 in), SR (13.3 in), and FW (16.1). Both the Z and the FW have 16:9 ratio screens, and the Z has the best screen out of the three, although it's also the most expensive one among the three laptops.

The SR is somewhat like Dell M1330 except the SR doesn't have HDMI. Personally, I think the SR has a better screen than the M1330 and most other 13.3 in laptops.

The Z's screen has 100% color saturation. I heard that the screen on the Z looks a lot better than the screen on the SR. You also have the option of getting a 1366*786 resolution screen or a 1600*900 res screen. In addition, there's a switch on the Z that lets you to switch between integrated graphics and the nvidia 9300. Also, you have options like dual SSD in RAID 0 OR BLU RAY drive on the Z, but they are EXPENSIVE. It pretty much has the same ports that the SR has except the addition of HDMI. The ports arrangement is also more logical on the Z IMO.

You can expect to spend around $1500 (+/- $300) on a decently equipped SR and $2100 (+/- $200) on a decently equipped Z (with lower res and no BR or SSD). I'm not familiar with the FW tho, sry.

Edit: Oops... I didn't see your budget. Just ignore my post then. If you don't travel a lot. I think you can get a FW for around $1200. Whichever you choice, they are ALL really good laptops, better than Dell IMO.

Ya based on your budget I'd suggest getting the new FW. It has awesome spec and its right in your price range.

    I agree with efil.

racein, based on your budget & your usage of your laptop (you mentioned it as mainly using the laptop at home), a FW looks the best fit at the moment. Good luck.
