I just bought a new sony vaio FZ notebook. I hear a continunous whining/high pitched noise coming from the left bottom corner of my notebook.
I had a hp dv6000t(new) before and returned it for the same reason. Please help me to resolve this issue. The noise increases when I open any web page in IE7, which has flash player animation. When I disable the flash activeX the sound stops temporarily. Is that processor sound?

i had a dv6000t that whined. I researched it and i found out that it has to do with the core 2 duo throttling. I'm not sure if its the same problem with the vaio.

You can get rid of the sound by turning off window's ability to turn off the USB ports to save power.

Go to systems -> Device Manager -> Universal Bus Controllers ->

Right click on any and all USB Root Hub -> Go to the Power management tab and uncheck the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

    The sound should disappear.

why would turning off the USB ports cause a whining sound?
