I remember seeing that sonystyle.com offered a White TZ, but I'm no longer seeing this on their website and the Sony store local to me has none. Is this color forever gone?

I believe so, my friend. They told me it is discontinued (probably due to +$800 for being white and having a leather case?), I really want that thing too but got a black one instead for $800 less.

You can still get the white TZ from other sellers except sonystyle like conics or pricejapan. Maybe portableone has this option too, but I'm not sure.

Yes, its not sold anymore in North America at least, guess it just wasn't popular.

If you are in North America, I'd say the best option is to import the current TZ93 from Japan, where you can heavily custom order it, there's many more options than custom ordering it from SonyStyle here in North America. And I think in other regions, you cannot custom order at all.

Try conics.com, dynamism.com and pricejapan.com to import a built to order TZ from Japan.

The white American model that came out late 2007 was known as the TZ185N/WC, maybe you can still find it online if you look.

Oh yeah, now I remember why the TZ185N/WC was discontinued, stupid as hell Sony charged about as much for it as the higher end SSD models when this has a regular HDD! Yeah, the price was around $3000 when it came out when you could have gotten the TZ190 with a 32gb SSD for the same price!

The white color doesn't constitute that huge of a premium!

For the price pcconnection is asking for it, you can import a white built to order TZ from Japan with better specs for cheaper which your doing to do anyways right Marukai?

Your right, its not really their fault, its Sony's for making the MSRP so high on this particular model especially for its specs.

The TZ250 with the exact same specs retails for $2199 right now, I'm not paying hundreds extra to get the white color. If you really want a white TZ, its best to import from Japan, pick and choose the specs you want and if you pick the same specs as the American TZ185 white model, you'll save hundreds over what their charging here.

They seriously charged more for the white version in north america for no other reason than the colour?

That is so god damn strange.

I have a white TZ. In Australia the white one is the cheapest TZ in the range. Model no. VGN-TZ26GN. The TZ36GN which has just recently appeared on the sony australia website would appear to be it's replacement, and it is also white.

Hey bmoc, can you post some pics please? I will consider the white colour in the next TZ.
Does it get dirty easily as they say?

In my experience (and with my way of using it) it does not get dirty. One of the (for me) obvious things that I avoid, is touching the white TZ after having read I newspaper, and I also handle it with care.

Here are pictures of a white model from a UK review.

    http://www.mobilecomputermag.co.uk/20080318346/sony-vaio-tz31mn.html

They also said after reading the newspaper, they got the print on it. So it looks pretty, but its also high maintenance!

I don't find it difficult to keep clean. I use a cooskin keyboard cover so the keyboard is always pristine. The palm rests don't seem to get dirty and I'm not overly diligent about only using it with clean hands. I certainly don't touch it if I feel my hands are dirty or greasy though, but that's the same with anything, be in the TV remote or my own face.

And personally, I don't think having dirt show up is a bad thing, if you care about keeping your laptop clean, then you need to be able to see the dirt. I don't feel any better about the idea that my laptop is dirty just because I can't see the dirt. I don't want it to be dirty, and with a white TZ you will keep it cleaner because of that. And on top of that, I don't even clean it that often, so no, it doesn't pick up much dirt unless you have filthy hands.

Strangely, the plastic around the screen doesn't seem as bright white as the keyboard, plam rest, or the back side of the screen. It looks slightly off-white to me, but I can't remember if it was like this when I got it or if it's slowly become this colour. In all the official shots this part looks as sparkling white as the rest of it. I would have to put it side by side with a brand new one to know for sure. If it has discoloured I can't imagine that it's from being touched, as I never really touch this part of the laptop, maybe the plastic just loses it's colour, or maybe it's my imagination. I'd take a photo but I don't have a proper camera and I doubt you'd see what I'm talking about with the quality of my phone camera. Maybe other white TZ owners can comment on this.

I think white looks nice. It definitely draws more attention to your laptop, so if, as every TZ brochure states, you want "a sophisticated look for the boardroom or airport lounge" then I think this is the colour for you ;)

Personally however, I prefer it if people don't notice I'm carrying round a desireble looking $3,500 laptop, and only got white because it was the cheapest.

Hey GUYS! I've got a slightly used TZ in excellent condition. White & ZERO scratches. Still under full factory warranty. It's been a great traveling companion. However, I purchased a pro DSLR with large raw files and unfortunately need something with more power. Aside from that it has been great and I have received a lot of complements about it. I purchased it directly from the Sony Style dealer here in Bangkok Thailand and if you are interested. I can most likely have the computer sent to you directly from Sony. You will have to pickup the shipping cost of course. It cost me 69000 baht 8 months ago and since it is in such great demand I cannot discount a whole lot because it seems that everyone wants this model and has been asking for it all around town. It's up for grabs to the highest bidder. Reply to this message to whom ever is interested. Wishing you all the best! Cheers....
