is 1280x800 really that bad? I heard the screens are awesome...

Plus...how do you output 5.1 or 7.1 audio with your Sony Vaio??

How many own a FZ model and love it?

I ordered an FZ290 for Christmas but it had a bad keyboard so I retruned it. I have a FZ4000 on the way. I love the screen. Just wish it was a better resolution. Other that that I love it.

Have a SZ650NC here and LOVE it too!!!
I had to pay something like 450euro to he customs when I brought it back to Europe, but it worth it!!
The only complaint is a that a key is only half connected, and I cant figure out how to place the other part on...
Anyway, the only laptop I could dream of....

My first ever laptop couldn't be much more perfect than the my FZ21s.
The screen in literally unbeatable. The looks are quiet but incredibly stylish. The slim size for the spec, is incredible.

I love it!!! Sony Vaio rules!!

I've had a HP, and Dell (terrible and got returned) and now have my SZ61WN/C Premium (Carbon Fibre) and I LOVE IT!

And 1280x800 is fine, esp on a 13.3" screen!

Hi, I first had a Dell 6400, then I had a HP DV6000t, and now I am using a Sony FZ190. I can say Sony is the best of all, and HP is better than Dell. :)

I've owned a SZ320, and currently own a 650. Both were/are great machines. After having the non premium version, I was really excited about the 650 but now I'm just kind of debating why I bought it. I got it for a great price, and only had to put out $50 of my own money for it(3 year warranty included). Now that I've gotten a taste of both I have to say if the black/silver was available as a premium model(carbon fiber, led screen etc) I'd buy it over the all black.

My TZ is probably the best Notebook I've ever worked on.

The performance is just on point,
the screen is the brightest and clearest,
the keyboard is grippy and very good for long typing sessions,
    the battery-life is great,
the carbon-finish is cool, smooth and looks very tough
    its so lightweight,
in my eyes its quite durable... not a toughbook, but thats 5x heavier!!!

i'm in the same boat. bought a tz150 about 7 hours ago. bestbuy had it on clearance for $1200, but missing the battery. went to sonystyle and bought a standard battery! so far i love this little machine. it's going to replace my tx770. not sure if i'll keep vista on it or not. it seems to handle vista okay after upgrading to 2gb of ram and removing the bloatware. i'm installing sp1 rc1 on it right now.

Is it possible for someone who has a TZ AND SZ to post side-by-side pictures? Preferably screen shots as well. I am trying to decide between the two and can't decide which has the better screen (in terms of brightness). Here in India, there are no dealers who have demo models to show you.
    Thanks

They're pretty equal Raja, but the TZ -- to me -- has a *slightly* better screen. Can't put my finger on it but it seems to have a tad more pop and brightness than the SZ I had. I'd say the difference is so negligible that most people wouldn't be able to tell however. One thing's for sure, Sony definitely doesn't use the same panels for both models because both have different problems.

With the SZ600 series, some of them suffer from banding issues (including my now-returned VGN-SZ660N/C), and with the TZs, a lot of them (including my current VGN-TZ150N/B) have bottom backlight bleeding, which you can see during boot-up. I know it isn't just my TZ because I saw the same exact bleeding at another TZ I was looking at in Best Buy where I got my 150 at.

now keep it this way until the idiots @ redmont figure out that: 'it the users stupid'.... I personally will boycott any Vista/2008 Server and any further OS with the DRM garbage and the excessive nonsense built-in.

The TZ has diode-backlight and the SZ had a simple kathode-backlight. There is no "flickering" you can identify clearly, but there is one. Next, the colours of diode-enlighted screens are more "fruity" and clearer, because the cathode-lamp tends to look a lil greenish-blueish.
But the most important point is, that the range of dim-ability of diode-backlights is far wider, they are lighter without producing so much heat and they don't eat your battarys for breakfast.
Last the diode-screens are thinner and tougher. When you press a finger on the back of the lid, putting a slight deformity on the screen... the kathode-backlight will change colours and start flickering. (don't break it!!!) the diode-screen can withstand more pressure and deformation without breaking!

Speak only for yourself, but i need the DRM and the TPM.

With the DRM-module I can use the software from my company at home, and they know I won't spread it, even not by getting my LT stolen!

With the TP-module I can take home my patient's data, and if they steal my computer I will not worry about going to jail for spreading who has HIV and who has aborted pregnancy... Of course I could equally have used PGP for this job, but as long as they work with closed source and don't give me garanty that the OS does not cache my keys and PW somewhere on the HD, I am happy with unlocking my computer via fingerprint and the data via PW. OK?

Love my 17" AR670. Probably the best laptop I've owned.

And as for me, 1280x800 is unusable for a working machine. I tried but I just couldn't stand it. That's why I ditched my 9-mos old Toshiba for the Sony. Loved everything else about the Toshiba, but I can't tolerate such a puny resolution in my work. Hence the 1920x1200 AR.

funny you say that. :) some of the 13.3" fanbase don't realize that the 11" have more real estate and higher dpi. There is always an external DVI though..

I have a SZ680, Best laptop I have ever owned, it wipes the Sony S of course, also loved my Sony S, but this thing wipes the MBP and MB I tried out, takes my brothers Acer and Lenovos. Just a head turner laptop. Well worth the money! :)
