I have upgraded from SZ370 to SZ650 (with FSB800Mhz) but could not find any noticeable change in terms of performance. I am considering to return it next week. Any help?

I don't know the specs of both laptops (there's my laziness again, which prevents me to go look for them), but if the only difference is Santa Rosa, you will not notice a (big) performance increase.

-Are your SZ3 and SZ6 running the same operating sys?

-Did you do a clean install on both?

-Are other circumances exactly the same? (like memory, harddisk)

Anyway, you are going to need some very powerhungry applications to notice difference.

Try ripping a DVD to Xvid Avi with AutoGK (freeware). That will give you a nice benchmark.

Or do a heavy job in Windows Moviemaker.

You went from XP to Vista? There's 30% right there in 'feel', so to 'feel' just as fast the machine would have to be 30% faster.

Sony loads them with bloatware, call it another 20%

Now take that 650 and do a clean install of XP. It's fast! Every bit as fast as some of my workstations and I have some decent stuff around here.

A clean install of Vista will run a bit faster too.

by "noticeable", if you are referring to normal activities like os / applications start up and file opening time, you will not see any noticeable differences.

if you are running some processor-intensive processes such as games or video conversion, you should notice some improvement.

Vista seems to run snappier in the shell and working with multitasking than XP to me. I think the superfetch and readyboost are noticable improvements. Games seem a bit slower with Vista. Rarely has either operating system used my cpu at 100% which means hard drive is the bottleneck not system bus aka Santa Rosa. After you upgrade your SZ to a 7200rpm drive you will notice an improvement. Santa Rosa is cutting edge marketing and, like the others are saying, you will not see that much difference. Go VIsta and Virtual PC 2007 with XP for compatibility.
