No, Ultimate mode turns off the sound card to save the battery.
For longer battery life and still have some comforts try different tweaks.
I have been testing my battery with different settings. The battery meter is not so accurate. I have been getting better then what is being reported, according to the stopwatch I have been using to test the battery times.
Currently for battery power I have been using the following setting to achieve about 4 hrs.
Set it to Portable/Laptop.
CPU - Adaptive
Fan -2
disable iLink
Turn the screen down to 5 and switch to stamina. Wifif is turned on /off intermittently as needed. Running Excel,Outlook, Word,Sound left on default(3 notches away from max).
Yes , longer times would be better but 4hrs is not bad. My Compaq,Gateway get horrendous times compare to the S. -
It's easy to go into the power options and select what you do and do not want to disable. On my laptop, I have several modes that I switch between depending on what my needs are. My ultimate battery setting generally has everything I don't need disabled.. then my max battery setting has everything disabled except for the LAN port. It'd be easy to create another setting that just has audio enabled, which leaving other peripheral devices disabled.
I believe (I don't have my laptop in front of me) that most of the power-saving modes in VAIO power management disable the optical drive and soundcard in a single option. When the optical drive/soundcard is disabled, the volume screen overlay display (which pops up when using the FN + F keys) will show the volume stuck down at the low end of the spectrum. It would have made more sense to have a 0 volume/disabled volume setting be displayed as "muted" or "disabled"...... but, well, yeah.
It's also a bit aggrivating to have to disable/enable the optical drive and sound card in a single option, imo.
Why cant I turn up volume on ultimate save mode?
