well..i just wanted to start a thread for users to share their thoughts and opinions on choosing a vaio over so many brands in the market.....it would be great if you all even bring out the negatives(unbiased) of ur models along with the numerous positives ...

i also wonder why despite having such a great line up of notebooks, sony hasn't been able to capture the laptop market for good....

and in the end the after thoughts ,after buying the notebook of your choice are also welcome..

n it would be very apreciable for once to have the number of replies to a thread atleast close to the number of views :)

You should have added one more category... features.

I chose my TX850 because of its small size and superb battery life. While there are other sub-notebooks out there, I think the VAIO is the smallest, and no other can compete when it comes to the battery life of the TX850.

I chose my SZ because of the following criteria.
Specs,size/weight and screen. The Asus W7J was the runner up but I could not see one at a B&M so the Sony won.

Size/weight/design = looks. And looks are all it's good for.

Performance-wise, it's the same inside as everything else on the market.
It's not nearly worth it's price.
And it's not the most reliable notebook when it comes to build quality.

    Looks, looks, looks.

    SZ because of weight/specs/size/screen

Despite what people say about Sony, they repair it when I bring it back from Iraq choked up with dust less than ideal operating conditions (if it is still covered by warranty :) )

Since when can you see weight?

Sometimes you should just "tick a lock".

I am currently with my SZ360 in a cafe, surrounded by Dells, HPs, and Apples ------------- and freely admit that I voted "looks". ;)

It seems most of us who voted liked the SZ for looks and performance, value and reliablity was not an issue.

Who cares if it works or not, it looks good. :p :p

Screen, performance, weight, GPU... It was the best out there for my needs at the time. $$$ was not a factor, I make 300,000 pesos a year!

Definetly not performance or value, seeing as I paid $1000 for it a week after C2D came out, and it still has a Sonoma Centrino.

Looks: definetly, as it seems to be the nicest looking 14" notebook short of the $1800 (+ tax) W3J, so yea. Also, it was lighter and thinner than the 14" Dells and HPs.

Reliability: I guess this is my parents bias towards Sony showing up. We bought a PCG FX240 in 2000, and it was running perfectly well until last week, when I broke the Wireless PC Card slot (and the card slots) by pushing it off the bed (it wasnt me, it was my little brother, but I got blamed anyways).

They liked that reliability, and I liked the look, so I got it.

EDIT: forgot about this point, but that screen is ABSOLUTELY MARVELOUS...I dont know if that would go under performance, so I'll count it under looks...

To me, the Vaio lineup looks better than any laptop available outside of Macbooks.

The Vaio is a masterpiece of sexiness and performance:

My Vaio works without any major problem --

    and the screen?

Simply put, the SonyFE790 has one hell of a screen.

I've got about 4-5 Sony vaio. Lost count already. But I get free laptop from where I work, and I can order pretty much anything I want. Anything but alienware ;p as they are gaming pc and not for work heh.

so i guess why not order some expensive and fancy since we don't really have a budget.

I am a commuter college student in NYC. I travel by subway everyday to school.I use this as a primary computer so I wanted soomething powerful that would last me a while and fully support Vista. The SZ is the only laptop of its size and power on the market.

    Very Light
Very Powerful with almost no compromises
    Looks Great
