I've just had a little idea spring to mind. I hope it hasn't been done before and that no one will get mad at me doing this.
Here's the idea.
Every laptop manufacturer/brand has something unique about it. Each have their advantages and disadvantages, and their fanbase. Something must draw the fans to this brand or that, and I'd like to know what.
So I'm gonna post a thread like this in the forums dedicated to each of the major manufacturers (i.e. the ones who have the most active forums).
I welcome everyone (especially the fans of the particular brand) to post what is it that they like about these laptops. Any reasons are welcome - from features and performance to price and family traditions.
Of course, you can also post things that you don't like.
So, why do you like Sony?

its elegant style and yet powerful performance captures customer's mind. On the downside, Sony are known for their expensive price tag and unhelpful support. However nowdays the price dropped signifcantly compared to old Sony (2000?)

Two words: Sony Style
Besides that, Sony has gradually gotten better at listening to their user base and addressing technical issues. The S series is a prime example of this.
On the cost, issue, Sony has really dropped prices recently, and I've noticed that they have dropped the prices even further. The S-580 starts at "only" $1200 for a base configuration now. You can practically get a very decent configuration for under $1500. The FS has now dropped to $900 for its base configuration. Anybody who says that all Sony laptops are expensive should think again. -
Well, I don't own a Sony. But I do like them for their excellent X-Brite screens, I've noticed they produce less glare than glossy screens from other companies. The screen on the FS series is gorgeous, breathtaking. I also like the design and style of their notebooks.
I don't like their poor support, high price tags, and only supporting memory stick, though that appears to be coming to an end now. -
Thankfully, that's come to a rather abrupt end across Sony's entire range. Notebooks support SD, and their digicams are finally supporting CF. I don't expect them to drop the format anytime soon, but rather, they are supporting other formats.
On price, check Sony's website. Prices sharply dropped by several hundred today. -
Everybody has good points about good reasons to like Sony. In addition, I really like the design of my T150. There are very few subnotebooks with optical drives built-in. Battery life is superb. The location of the components and controls is extremely well thought out. The T series has both style and functionality that can't be beat.

We don't own one but we're ordering a new FS790 on Monday. We chose it first and foremost because of the quality of the display, second because of the light weight, we also like the style. The price has dropped a bunch with the introduction of the 790 on Friday and according to the latest PC Magazine consumers are saying the quality of support has risen dramatically. We also considered Fujisitsu and ASUS. However, the Fujisitsu N3500 is over a pound heavier. The ASUS looks very nice, but the W1N is really expensive and I just don't like the idea of buying a whitebox and dealing with the reseller (Two resellers I communicated with had English as a second language and my shortcomings understanding them was an issue, another one seemed to be way to type A personality for me to want to deal with)... and I'm haunted by "what if they go out of business" thoughts. I'm pretty confident that Sony will be around for as long as I need them.

I bought a Sony VAIO S460 because I felt it was the windows equivalent of an Apple PowerBook, which in my opinion, is the standard of excellence for a notebook computer. VAIO notebooks are sleek, stylish, and have the performance to back up their higher price. Now, granted you can buy another brand that will have similar performance, but it won't offer the experience of a VAIO.
-
Stylish design, build quality second to none; Sonys are best known for their durability and reliability. Speakers on VAIO laptops are of better quality (crisper sound but still lacks bass) than most, though, if I might add, nothing compared to the likes of Toshiba and HP. That's my little synopsis.
edit: Too add to what I said earlier on, Sony laptops help bring out the creative side in me. Don't know why, they just do.

The best desing on the planet, the fact they bring out new ones every 6 months.
The Vaio Z1 is the best looking laptop ever made in my opinion.
Good quality. I am typing this on a 3 year old Sony Vaio, which has 14" screen and is only 1" thick. Great desing, even now it seems to be better than most.
Good value. The Vaio FS series starts at an incredibly cheap price.
Amazing screens (X-Brite).
I like how Sony sucks you in, and before you know everything you own uses a memory stick.

I like Sony a lot, but not that much.

You are in First Class on the Eurostar taking a new girlfriend to Brussels for the weekend.
Scenario 1: You struggle to remove your 17" Fujitsu Amilo from a bag not far off suitcase size and say "I can get 40 frames a second in Doom 3 with 2AA and a bit of AF"
Scenario 2: You remove your 10.6" Sony T2XP from a leather attache case and say "how about we watch a DVD between here and the coast"
Guess who got the better dinner?
Simple innit :sony: -
The first carbon fiber subnotebook in the world is the Sony X505 CP. It is also the thinnest and lightest in the world at 1.7 lbs! I love the artistic design Sony puts into their products. I can't afford to buy new so I buy slightly used on Ebay saving thousands of dollars. Everything I own is a Sony and I have never had any problems. Sony does not currently sell the X505 but you can find one on Ebay. An updated version will be coming out in 2006.
