    Hello all,

    if you compare side by side
    Sony VAIO NR-11S with
    Lenovo R61i

    the lenovo has better spec, I looked at both displays
    looks the same to me (both glossy type)

    so .. why does the sony cost more than 300$ more ?

    any idea ?
    thanx
    Eli

    Because it's Sony :p

    Anyway, Vaio is only worth if you are buying the design, their specification is inferior than most of laptops that offered with same price, but well, you buy the design and the brand, not only the specs.

    it depends on in what country you buy it, if you buy a Thinklpad here , it is mcuh more expensive than a Sony FZ or SZ.

    but if you buy a Thinkpad in the US , China or Japan , it is cheap , and it is much cheaper than a decent featured FZ.

    PS. please do not compare Sony NR to any of Thinkpad , they are not comparable.

    Sorry, you are talking about R61i?
    the I version is a cheap model with cheap CPU, not like other thinkpads.

    umm actually its almost same spec ...
    VAIO - Intel 2 duo 1.5 R61i - Intel 2 duo 1.5
    VAIO - 2GB RAM R61i - 2GB RAM
    VAIO - 200GB 4200 R61i - 160GB 540 <= faster drive
    VAIO - Intel X3100 R61i - Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M <= better graphics

    plus the R61i has finger print, S-Video, bluetooth, better keyboard

    you can tell the sony is better at something ?
    I hope
    coz I bought the sony but now I want to sell it and get lenovo

    You are paying a premium for the Sony name. But I used to have an HP, which blew. I believe Sony makes a high quality computer, as well as other electronics.

    After I had Dell (D630) and now purchased Lenovo (T61)

    I can answer my own question
    Sony's laptop are more expensive due to:

    1. build quality
    everything is in place the keyboard is wonderfully made
    2. low emissions
    the quietest and coolest notebook I have seen
    if the screen is off you can't tell if the machine is on !
