Why does my brand new TX lock up from standby or hibernate?

I've had this VGN-TX650 for about a week and about 20% of the time, coming out of standby or hibernate, it locks up. If I watch it for 5 minutes or so, it comes back really slowly and unuseable with every keyboard or mouse input taking 2 minutes or so to register, like the processer is maxing out on something. I have to reboot it.

I haven't really done much to it, deleted a couple bundled programs, activated Norton. I also put in an extra 512MB of RAM. Any ideas what the problem is? Any suggestions? If it keeps this up I am returning it.

Try taking out the ram you purchased and test to see if it locks up again. If it doesn't lock up after you take out your ram then you know what the problem is. ;)

Thanks for that suggestion--I will do just that.

I bought the CompUSA 'house brand' ram, the first one didn't work at all--the computer wouldn't boot. They swapped it for a new one that seemed to work fine, but I will definitely test it and if that's the problem I'll return it and maybe order RAM from Crucial.

No problem, hope it solves your problem thought.

Try newegg.com for ram.. I've heard the Trascend DDR-4200 1GB ram work well with the TX and it's fairly cheap. But you can never go wrong wiith Crucial

I was just looking at newegg, it's a lot cheaper than crucial. Thanks for the tip on the Trascend, I may just order that and try it out. I still have a couple weeks to return the stuff I bought at a rip-off price at CompUSA.

I read somewhere that you are prone to more problems with hibernation and high RAM

Well, I've only got 1 GB of RAM at the moment. Doesn't seem that much these days. I remember having 1 MB of RAM :p
