It was a great laptop. I saw alot of them at my college, they sold well most likely. It was a great size and weight for a 15.4 inch. lots of power in it too!

so why would sony do that after 1 year? i havent been a long time sony customer, but do they usually do that so quickly?

I've been wondering that myself. As far as I know that's only leaves them with the NR series (which is non-configurable) in the 15.4 size for consumers. Maybe they feel it will compete to closely with the FW?

If the FZ290 did not have the Nvidia card in it, I would definitely get one. Loaded up with bluetooth, cam, HDMI, XBrite-HiColor for $999.....Very nice.

The C series (predecessor to the current CR) lasted only from August 06 to May 07, the Vaio TR lasted a year before replaced by the T, which also lasted a year and then followed by the TX and TZ.

Sony has some models they keep for a very long time (SZ lasted 2.5 years!!) and some for a short time.

well, it's not after one year. Sony has introduced F series (first model was FS) quite some years ago. Then FE followed, and then FZ, so as you can see this is min 3-4 years time. My opinion is that sony wanted to introduce "REAL" multimedia laptop (as F series was always multimedia oriented, but only "on paper", not performance wise), so they went for bigger (and better) FW series. With bigger laptop you have more space to put better speakers (hope FW will have good ones), better GPU (better heat dispersion)...
This is why I think FW is bullseye for Sony as it's only 300g gain in weight and you really get a lot (more than FZ).

Because they have FW which is only slightly heavier but much bigger. And it has true 16:9 HDTV aspect ratio. If you want an entertainment notebook, there is really no reason to opt for FZ over FW.

wondering that myself. Bought a C series 2 years ago and it was discontinued 1.5 years ago. Imagine that.
