So, this is a great laptop, the new i7 processor and stuff but i try to connect with my home WiFi signal, that works with my desktop, and the laptop finds it, when i click "connect" i connects but than something strange happens, i keeps connecting and unconnecting randomly, and it messes up the signal too, so when i'm trying to connect my laptop, i cant use the internet in my desktop too, so, can anybody help me?

What model is your wireless card... Intel, Atheros, Broadcom?

Start --> Control Panel --> Device Manager --> now expand the Wireless Adapters, and one will be your wireless card. Just post what brand it is, and what version of Windows your running Vista/Win7 32/64-bit and I'll find you some updated drivers that *should* take care of your problem.

Download **here**. Note that these are official Sony issued drivers that cover all AR928x cards.

You're welcome! Post back if that doesn't work, because there are a few other things I can think of that would cause your symptoms.

I posted about a similar problem earlier in the week - and it sounds similar. Unfortunately, I have not found a solution.

I have a CW27 with the Atheros AR9285 wireless card. It connects fine to my router at home (an Airport Express), but when I took it to my in-law's earlier this week, it caused their Linksys WRT54G (v8) to crash, knocking off the other laptops as well as hard-wired desktop.

I was like "whatever" and used the in-laws desktop for the rest of the day after reseting the router-- they didn't want me messing around.

Then yesterday I went to a friend's house and guess what? My Vaio crashed his WRT54GS (v6?)!!! We actually had to do a full reset (using the button on the back) before we could get his router back up and running again. I definitely need a fix for this, because I will be losing friends if my computer keeps on taking down their networks.

When I last posted, I said I thought my in-laws were using WPA2, and XGX2007 suggested that he thought the router didn't have enough memory to deal with that sort of encryption. I mistyped - it was WPA encryption that was being used on both routers.

Anyone else having this problem or any ideas how to fix it? My drivers are the same version that are posted on the Sony site.

    Thanks!
    Alex

Try turning off the Windows Media Sharing service and make sure you guys networks are UPnP enabled. It should take some stress off the network.

Um, UPnP generates extra traffic compared to manual set-up, it doesn't reduce it. It just makes things easier, at the price of lessened security and extra traffic for negotiations.

This is true, but, how many normal consumers do you know that know how to add a port exception to a router firewall? Try putting your router in Bridge mode. Or changing your DNS addresses. Just changing your DNS addresses from the crappy provider servers to maybe OpenDNS or GoogleDNS or others, will help stabilize your connection. Another thing you can try is to set your router to only accept requests from verified Mac Addresses. There are so many things that can cause a network to become unstable its unreal, just try not to get too frustrated with it. It's all in the settings..

lol.. Those places run business class routers that can handle whatever traffic you throw at them. Usually the Cisco Aironet is the choice router.

I know - I'm gonna have to go to the local coffee shop and see people freak out. If I'm going to have these problems, I might as well have fun with it. :p

XGX2007 - Just want to say a big thanks for all of your help and suggestions on this board!
