I bought a SZ 460N with Vista pre-installed at a SonyStyle store a couple of days ago, and I've never had success with consistently connecting to a wireless router.

The WiFi chip on it is the Intel 3945abg.

It sometimes connects to the internet, and works for a bit before getting disconnected and afterwards refuses to connect again with the error 'Timeout' or 'The router did not respond' in the diagnosis.

It is surely not a problem with the Netgear router because 3 other laptops and a Media center PC connect fine with WiFi to it. Also, it had the same problem with another Netgear router at another location.

I have tried multiple solutions suggested at http://www.vistaforums.com/Forum/Topic4198-45-8.aspx like turning off the power saving, lowering the roaming aggressiveness to the minimum, turning off the SPI firewall and lowering the MTU on the router, all with no success.

Hope someone can help me out with the problem.

This probably isn't the problem, but when I introduced my SZ to the wireless network at my house it worked fine for a couple hours but then I started getting kicked off every 30 mins or so. It doesn't make much sense, but upgrading my router's firmware fixed the problem.

The netgear router's firmware is up to date. I guess I'll try burning a Knoppix CD to isolate the problem.
