    I got Widcomm 5 working on my SZ160!!! :D

I had to modify the drivers to support the internal Bluetooth device on Sony SZ series notebooks.

I've been comparing the Widcomm software to the Toshiba software.

Some advantages I found with Widcomm over the Toshiba:

    - You can synchronize your phonebook, calender and etc, on your cell phone with Microsoft Outlook.

    - You can also view and copy files on your phone in shell mode.

    - You can set-up virtual serial ports to use bluetooth in certain applications.

    - Some of these features are phone dependent and work with my Sony W800i phone.

Download Widcomm 5 software: click here

Download modified Sony SZ Bluetooth drivers: click here

    1) Uninstall all previous Toshiba Bluetooth software.

    2) Turn off the bluetooth device using VAIO wireless utility.

    2) Run and install Widcomm setup.

It will say Bluetooth device not found, click cancel to continue installation.

    3) Now turn on Bluetooth using VAIO wireless utility. It should detect new hardware and ask you to install the device.

Click install from a specific location.

Select the folder you unzipped the modified drivers to:

Widcomm should now recognize the internal bluetooth device.

You links don't work. Any chance you can host the files elsewhere?

Its a much more versitile and compatible bluetooth software.

I just bought a logitech bluetooth v270 mouse and its was only supported by widcomm software.

I didnt use the toshiba software much, but I believe this program has more services available.

Looks like you may have to register an account there to access the files.

I just bought the same mouse and it would not load the logitech software. However, I did get the mouse connected using the Sony software and it works just fine.

That's weird, since the exact same v270 mouse worked immediately with my SZ 160's bluetooth. Hmmm...
    ?
Here's a question: Why aren't there any bluetooth mice with side "back" buttons?? They are ALL only two buttons plus a wheel! What gives? Is this a limitation due to the nature of Blutooth?

    Logitech MX1000
It has side back-forward-app switcher, scroll-wheel w/left-right, up/down rocker, rechargable, and laser. Mine came with wireless desktop set.

I installed the Widcomm app and the Sony Bluetooth Driver but now when I try to initiate it, it says 'Licence Not Found'... what does that mean?

I believe you mean the MX900, MX1000 uses USB RF not bluetooth.

There should be two setup files in that folder. You have to run the one that says installing version 5.0.1.1200

Nope, its a 1000. The MX5000 wireless desktop comes with the MX1000 mouse, but in BT flavor.

    Update:

It worked once (ActiveSync over BT for HP IPaq)... then didn't connect automatically the next time. So re-set the connection from my PDA and then it worked once again and now again it isn't connecting.

What am I doing wrong and how do I get a consistent auto-connection (i.e. ActiveSync) everytime I connect my device using BT. I am sure I am screwing up the COM settings somewhere. The question is where?? Please help.

Once my device (PDA) is connected, ActiveSync starts and says 'Connecting'... Period. Connection never really happens though.

Just want to note that I tried this on my sz360 and it worked beautifully. Now I can get my Logitech V270 bluetooth mouse setpoint software to install. Prior to this the mouse would work with the notebook but I couldn't install the logitech setpoint software. Thanks to the original poster for his effort.

    Hey everyone,

I am following Black G35's instructions to the letter...

When I click Cancel and then re-activate the Bluetooth, my computer starts installing it's own drivers instead of letting me choose my own... then I get a BSOD !

    Help !

Anyone else had this happen ? How did you fix it ?

    Thanks !

OK so I'll test it for a few more hours to be sure, but:

I went into C:\Windows\inf and deleted all of the files related to Bluetooth, and it seems to have worked...

If you have this problem, give it a shot !

it just turns on the blue LED and sits there.

Just for the record, I've tried on a FE590P, and it does not work, looks like the bluetooth hardware in this model does not support the A2DP service. Bought instead the Motorola - Skype bundle and everything is great !!!

Has anyone got this workaround to work with Vista? When I try and install the Widcomm software it installs quite a lot but then doesn't get over the part telling me "Drivers are being installed". The Windows driver not certified box shows up again and again but the install doesn't move on.
