Probably not, and legally you should not.

I don't see a reason why it should not be allowed. I'm not using an illegal copy. Is anyone 100 percent sure whether, or not a Sony Vista upgrade will work on a non Sony PC?

Yes it will work. Just use the cd and boot from it don't use any other sony cd's they send such as an upgrade assistant disc. you can just boot from the upgrade os cd. And as far as legal... IF you purchased it and you have a valid key you should be good (common sense) as long as you only have it installed on one machine. I know others will quote the End User LIcense agreements but I personally don't care because If you get the upgrade and decide that you don't want to use it on that particular machine you should have every right to use it elsewhere. I mean come on .... they are not really free upgrades and they charge shipping belive me you are paying for both xp and vista when you get a system. I experienced this in Germany... I purchased a laptop, I chose to have no os installed and they took a big chunk of change from the price. I don't know why they don't do that here in the states. Suppose I want linux on my laptop but they want to sell me one with vista... so I pay for that darn vista that i won't use. this system sucks big time

What Sony Vista Upgrade dvd? Are you talking about the Recovery Disc? Cuz if you got the DVD with Vista only on it, how did you get that? Sony told me to get the stupid Recovery CDs where I wanted the CD with only Vista on it.

    Thank you, alynch75.
I think you can get some kind of refund if your unused Windows license.

azntiger1000, I'm referring to the Vista Express Upgrade that done was by Q Media, Moduslink, and Microsft. The DVD was not included with my original laptop purchase.

The Vista Express Upgrade CD will boot from any computer. and you can install the OS so what is the problem. IF it won't boot ... insert the disc when the system boots and then upgrade..... when it asks to upgrad say clean install and it will work.

Yes, I was just saying you can get a refund on your unused Windows license, because you mentioned not wanting an OS installed.
