Will a bigger adapter get the TZ9 to charge any quicker?

The title says it all. I am used to the 2-3 hour charge time of a Panasonic CF-W2. The TZ90 seems to take forever.

I know that some (most that I've used) charge faster with higher powered adapters, yes.

It may charge faster. It may explode. It's all comes down to how conservative Sony's design team. The larger current in the AC adapter can destroy the internal circuitry of the computer. But then again, Sony could have accounted for this and have designed protection circuits. Or they may not have. In any case, it's probably not worth the risk.

Wait, are we talking about a Sony charger or a 3rd party charger here?

If sony makes a larger one for your laptop, yes it will charge quicker with few ill effects (it will decrease the lifetime of your battery, but from personal experience the difference is not noticeable.)

    Maybe something wrong?

Or could it be the battery management utility?
