I am almost sure I want the Sony SZ but I am not going to pay their prices for memory. I was wondering if I bought memory from NewEgg if it would void my warranty with Sony?

No, adding additional RAM will not void your warranty, neither will getting a better hard drive. If you crack open the case though, to replace the CPU or otherwise, that will void it.

Adding RAM is considered to be User Upgradable. It is usually just a compartment on the bottom of the laptop and takes about 30 seconds to install. Not really messed up easily.

Even if it wasn't purchased and installed by Sony it won't void the warranty.
