Will the FW ever have an LED backlit display option?

The FW series seems like exactly what I'm looking for in a laptop but I am put off by the fact it doesn't use an LED backlit display. Does anyone know if they will update the display anytime in the near future? If not, I will probably have to go with a comparable Dell.

do not count on it. perhaps the model that will replace the FW will come with one, but such an upgrade on the current machine will not happen.

You could always find a led backlit screen and replace the FW screen yourself.

I don't know, but are you sure you want LED and not 2CCFL?

In other words, the Vaio FW31ZJ screen is brighter and has higher contrast than the Dell XPS RGBLED screen.

Won't an LED display draw considerably less power (battery life) and maintain its high brightness levels throughout its lifespan vs fading over time?

You're not exactly looking at an ultraportable...or a portable at all, I don't think battery life matter once you get past 14", but thats just my opinion.

Both are true yes. Although LED also looses brightness, but slower.

But even a CCFL display can be used for several years while looking good. And 270 cd/m is way toobright anyway, so loosing a bit won't matter.

Plus there's the issue of true whites where there should be whites.

Almost every Dell screen I have seen in the Studio, Inspiron, and XPS lines, CCFL or white LED, has a slight blue wash over their whites -- others have commented on this at the Dell sites themselves.

The Sony Hi-Color or FullHD screen (both are with the dual backlighting) have far crisper whites.
