    Guys
I travel some 150 days a year to various countries which have both GSM and CDMA.

Im thinking of a TX wimax but dont want to pay the horrendous costs to Cingular.

Anyone has experience of getting their unit UNLOCKED and using it with local SIM cards in other countries?

Does wimax in the TX work in other countries GSM networks/SIMs if the device is unlocked?

How does it work with CDMA where theres no SIM to replace?

this will be a crucial factor in my purchase decision and as such any advice would be gratefully welcomed

It's not WiMax, you're getting long range WiFi confused with what the notebook offers, WAN. Anyway, I don't know if anyone has unlocked one yet, but I'm sure it's possible.

thanks Brian. Whats the difference between the two? Will wimax appear in notebooks sometime soon? i called sony and cingular, and no one appears to have a reliable answer for the unlocking.

Wimax doesn't refer to notebook technology. You need to ask Cingular about provding international support with their data service. I'm sure it's expensive though.

they are clueless! dont have an answer whether the WAN and the SIM can be unlcoked or not. i dont want roaming, which is $1.90 per minute roaming! I am merely trying to find out if the notebook, can be UNLOCKED so that i can use local SIM cards in different countries?
