I am intending to customize a vaio Z590 tomorrow with the following specs:
    2.53/6MB
    200 GB 7200 RPM
    4GB
    DVDRW
    Extended Battery
    1600 X 1900
    Fresh Start

I want the win xpp downgrade option. My question is: do i automatically get a win xpp cd in the box when i chose win vista business? and will i be able to install both of them or will i have to chose one?

That's a very interesting question regarding the disc. Certainly the recent TZ models in Europe come with XP downgrade media... but they were released before the June deadline when Microsoft stopped providing XP to OEMs. Presumably the Vista Business license still includes the downgrade option (to keep corporate customers happy) but I don't know whether they'll still provide discs or not.

As for the 'both at once' question... I believe you need to select one of the other because your Vista Business license only allows a downgrade to XP and doesn't allow an extra license to install both. If you have spare licenses though, then it's technically possible to do a dual boot, I'm sure.

But dual-booting in XP/Vista seems like a waste of time to me... if you want to keep Vista, why not use Virtual PC or VMware to run your XP software?

Dual booting to a totally different OS like Ubuntu or OSx86 would make much more sense to me... ;)

Is it better to downgrade Vista Business to XP, or to do a clean install of XP after Vista is completely removed from the computer?

    Also, what is 'Fresh Start?'

Fresh start is an option in the CTO of the Z series in sonystyle.com which removes all the trial and extra softwares that usually come with the notebook so as to free more space and increase the performance of the notebook.

I haven't tried it, but I'm guessing there isn't a working 'downgrade' mechanism in Vista i.e. the reverse of an upgrade from XP where it'll try to keep your settings etc... this would have been too much effort to develop given Microsoft doesn't want you to be able to do it easily (a bit embarrassing for them if they did, eh!?).

I think it really means installing XP from scratch, but as I said I've never tried it.
