This Posting will help you, to turn your Vaio Notebook into an Wlan Accesspoint. This is a Feature from Windows7, not from Sony itself.
You need:
- Windows 7
- newest Intel Wlan Drivers
- Some Information i will put in this posting![]()
This will work with many other Wlan Hardware, you mostly have to Upgrade your Wlan Driver, and have a look that he will support this feature.
1.) Download the Driver:
Intel® WiFi Link 5300 and Intel® WiFi Link 5100 productsIntel® PRO/Wireless and WiFi Link Drivers-Only for Windows 7*
2.) Install the Driver
3.) Setup your Accesspoint:
Start -- Run --- cmd
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid='MyWlan' key="mypassword" keyUsage=persistent
Now your Network is ready, and have to be startet
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
So you could show your status
netsh wlan show hostednetwork
Maybee it doesnt runs now, no worry![]()
Info: Have a look @ your DeviceManager. There will appear a new Networkcard: Microsoft Miniport for Wifi
Now you have to go to your Network Enviroment, and to go into the Settings of the Network Connection you want to share. For me is that the Network Connection of my UMTS/HDSPA Modem.
Enable Sharing (Have a look @ the attached Screenshot)
Now you could start your Accesspoint again, if you have trouble bevore:
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
For me are this steps the improved way of setting up the Accesspoint.
If it runs, then you could Download an additional Tool: Virtualrouter:
Download: Virtual Router - Wifi Hot Spot for Windows 7 / 2008 R2
At now you could enable / disable your Wlan Accesspoint much more comfortable. The Software shows you too, who connect to your Hotspot.

Connectify is similar to Virtual Router. For many one of them it will work alone as tool.
But for all who runs into trouble, the guide should help ;-)
