I didn't know where to post this, and I can't find an answer online. Here is my problem, I have a Vaio VPCF111FX and have OEM WinDVD BD 2010 installed and after a certain sony update I lost the ability to to open files and folders, and almost all options are greyed out. It allows me to open optical disks, but I'm trying to open a video file in it and I used to be able to do so before the sony update.

So, I uninstalled Windvd bd 2010 and inserted my recovery disks to install the original WinDVD bd 2010 that I assumed still had the functionality that the program had before i updated it. The problem is that the options are still greyed out even though I have the non-upgraded original windvd installed that came with the vaio. How can I solve this? Thanks

How old is the problem? The sony updates probably create a system restore point, or windows may have created one as it usually does from time to time before installing silent updates. so check system restore and see if there is a point before the sony updates. in that way you should be able to restore your system state to the original functionality. you personal data will be unaffected.

I don't allow automatic system updates via windows or sony nor do I allow automatic back ups. I don't have vaio update or vaio care installed either so I don't know what would do the silent updates? Thanks though. Plus the version number of windvd I reinstalled from my recovery disks is 10.0.5.109, which I believe is the version that was shipped with the vaio. I'm pretty stumped here.
