I have a Vaio VGN-SZ491N/X.
When I looked up to the Sony support site, unfortunately it was the last model of the SZ series that Sony won't support Windows 7 and Vista 64-bit as well.
From the SZ491n, the model jumps to the SZ6xx series and Sony officially listed all the neccessary drivers and BIOS updates for the newer series. On the other hand, anything below SZ491n are confined only to the Windows XP and Vista 32-bit. Not even a BIOS update for the 64-bit is available so that anyone who upgraded to 4GB of RAM is wasting away 1GB of space.
The CPU sockets are compleley different between the SZ-4xx and the SZ-6xx. But the rest of the hardwares look similar. It shouldn't be so hard for the Sony to come up with the drivers for the rest of the SZ series.
Has anyone succesfully able to run Windows 7 64-bit on their pre SZ-491n series with their function keys, webcam, WWLAN, bluetooth, finger print strip, fan, battery meter, stamina switch, sleep mode and the rest all working properly?
I think the we the customers of the Sony SZ collectively need to demand Sony for the support we deserve.

Don't even bother turning to Sony.
99% of what you need is in the other two threads about Win7 on the SZ's.
The current guides were built without Sony's help, in fact the "new software they list, isn't new at all, just things they acknowledge to work. Also, it's ONLY software, no drivers. Many of the people who contributed to those are satisfied and have probably disappeared at this point. They got what they needed.
You need to face what we faced when those guides were started, you have an older notebook, Sony doesn't care, and if you aren't willing to put in a lot of time and effort to try and make it work, you may as well stick to Vista.
I have MANY, MANY hours of work invested in mine making it work. Others have invested a lot of time and effort as well. Don't think we had it easy.
I am almost 100% sure ALL of your questions are answered there. Taking an hour or so to read it, will save you a LOT of hassle and really isn't asking much. A lot of it is just general conversation about a lot of it and can be skipped. So you can get though it quite fast.
Windows 7 64-bit drivers & BIOS on VGN-SZ491N and 4XX?
