Are you using the Sony Camera program, it only works with 2 drivers and they are a hassle to make work.

    Try an alternate program.

Read through the link in my signature, it deals with the camera issue and has several drivers throughout the thread along with lots of discussion of it.

Is anyone running an aftermarket battery successfully with Win 7? I'm running 7 Pro 32 bit and can't get mine going. It was working fine on Vista with ISBMGR.exe disabled., but Win7 still won't recognize it. I really don't want to shell out for another genuine Sony battery....help?

My laptop seems to recognize the battery, but the battery light on the battery/LAN indicator bar flashes two quick yellow pulses when the aftermarket battery is installed. It always shows that the battery is charging, but stays at 16% no matter what. I've tried every possible combination of disabling/enabling ISBMGR.exe as well as the microsoft power drivers (AC Adapter and ACPI compliant control device.) Coolguy, Is this the same driver setup you are running? Anyone else have any ideas?

For those of you have battry problem, read my post on other link:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=428140&page=27

The reasons that you have trouble with after-market battery is the battery checker program, included in the "Notebook control utilities" package. By extracting only necessary components out from "Notebook control utilities", you will have a clean mean install without the annoying battery checker.

Also, in my instruction, i use sz780 drivers, which is more compatible with windows 7 x64 than the original sz6 drivers.

    @original post:

vaio powermangement increases battery life by not only reduce the brightness, GPU refresh rate, cooling policy, but also turn off certain devices. My battery life went from 4, to 5hrs now on a full charge. That's a 20% increase!

You need to install the Sony apps (shared library. utilites etc)

I am about to do this on a fresh install after my SZ7 was crashing.

It already pops up witht "the Intel display driver has stopped responding", also the cursor goes bazerk when using the touch pad now and then.

    Any ideas?

I'm using a vaio SZ4, which has slightly different drivers than the 7 series. Do you know if the same method will work? The drivers in the Notebook control utility are a bit different. Also, doesn't this accomplish the same thing as disabling ISBmgr.exe? A lot of people on the board have indicated that the problem is a hardware lock, which they say can't be corrected. Any advice?

I had my SZ460N working perfectly under 64-bit RC, but now that I upgraded to RTM I can't get anything to work. I've tried everything possible for brightness controls. The only thing that works for me is volume. Also, I can't even get my verizon EVDO card drivers to work anymore like they did before. Sucks. :(

Thankfully Ubuntu linux works perfectly, even the webcam with some massaging. I have been using linux 90% of the time now on this machine. Battery life is even better (which was never the case with linux).

I'm not sure what else to try. I've pretty much given up on the hotkeys and power management software. I'm using the windows slider to control brightness in the mean time. The experience is still fine, just a bit more annoying.

Check the link in my sig.
Follow the guide on page 1, then work backwards from the end for few pages for more.

If you still have trouble, post there. We have almost everything in 64bit working perfect on most, if not all SZ's running RTM.
Sony has also finally stepped up and put some 64bit verified apps on the SZ750N support page.

As for your specific problem, If any FN buttons function then all is fine with the typical Sony apps. What you need is the Nvidia Registry patch. I think this was only offered for a few models, and you may have to use an extractor to pull the registry tweak out of the file but we have gotten it to work on almost every SZ. The most difficult part has been the camera really, though a few have trouble with brightness after waking from sleep. Sony may have dealt with that, we haven't confirmed it though.

Awesome. Thanks for the link. I used a similar thread when I first switched to RC. There may be light at the end of the tunnel. I thought I had exhausted all avenues.

Does anyone have any information on the VGN-SZ491N series?

It's the last model before Sony jumped on to the SZ-6XX series but the Windows supports are confined to the Windows XP and the Vista Business 32-bit only.

I upgraded to 4GB RAM but the BIOS wouldn't support the 64-bit and won't recognize all of them.

The very next models, SZ-6XX series, are the ones that Sony officially started listing the Windows 7 related drivers and the BIOS on their web site.

I can't believe that the SZ-491N is the last model that Sony decided to cut off supporting the Windows 7.

We need to call for all the pre SZ-4XX owners to demand Sony to release the support for the Windows 7 64-bit.

The biggest difference is the chipset and Camera.

I would imagine that you could use much of the same utilities as the ones listed here and on the SZ750N page.

All of this guide was compiled before Sony added those drivers just by trial and support. I know there are others with your model who have used this guide and had some success with it, though I couldn't tel you how much. I want to say everything was working, except the FN keys after you resume from suspend.

Hi all, thanks for all your help. I have been able to successfully install windows 7 on my system...Only problem is I'm not able to change fan speed on my machine. Installed VAIO power management separately as well, no options to change fan speed...please help.
I know windows 7 has better power management features, but guys, this is a laptop i'm running and it turns into a spitfire engine when CPU usage spikes up.

This thread is old and not up to date, as is the build 7000 RC.

The link in my signature has what you need.
