Just installed W7 clean on my NW:

Problem is I can't use the Fn keys. Brightness, Monitor Output and Zoom Function don't work.

The drivers are installed, but I don't know the proper order. I tried the guide here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/son...s-7-final-release-x64-install-mini-guide.html

but the steps still don't allow my Fn keys to function.

Can someone help me out here? I'd appreciate it.

These drivers would be installed after the rest of the drivers, right?

The ENTIRE SEQUENCE of installing the drivers and libraries is important. Do it in the wrong order and some things don't work right. Look at the links provided and make sure you use it for installing everything driver related.

Has any one had any experience with the NW series? I'm trying out different orders of the drivers... and doing a reinstall of W7 each time it fails because I can't figure out how to uninstall the drivers properly through the device manager.

I'm working with the different orders as described by the threads.

Sony shared library should be the first in the list followed by the SFEP driver and the rest of the utilities.

Pretty much every document I have seen from Sony says that the shared library should be installed first for Vista.

Here is the link for a Vista clean install:
    Vista Clean install

And for Win7 immediately after the basic hardware drivers. Here is the link:

    Win 7 Clean install

On certain models other sequences MAY work, but there are particular dependencies on the Shared Library. And if you load something that is dependent on it before it is loaded, things will go awry.

My point is this, why deviate from what Sony itself recommends?

Edit--- jogheads, please read to the end before you respond ---

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but that is not a clean install guide. It is only a list of drivers. Nothing on that document indicates it is a guide to the order in which things need to be installed. As I said, that sequence might very well work. But all of the actual specific clean install guides indicate a different order. I searched on the Sony Asia support site, and unfortunately there are no clean install guides there for any models.

This much I can tell you for certain, some of the drivers and auxiliary apps are dependent on the shared library. If they are installed prior to the library, some of them will be unable to find the appropriate items in the registry.

In the case of your list, you are only installing one item prior to the shared library, and for your model that item might not be dependent on the share library.

I would still recommend that Sony users should use the actual clean install guides as their instructions.

OH WAIT!!! After posting the above, I went back and looked at the list again. At the bottom of the page I noticed the "proceed" button. On a lark, I clicked it and got an "agreement" page. I clicked "agree" and only then came to an actual clean install guide. (Gee thanks for HIDING this so well Sony. Jeesh, sometimes I wonder about these idiots. The damn document doesn't come up in a simple site search.) Anyway, yes indeed the sequence there IS the very sequence you posted. Evidently the Setting utility is not dependent on the shared library for this model.

You didn't mention the SFEP driver in your list, which is required for the Fn key control.

    Hey ScuderiaConchiglia

I used your 'Dr. Pratik's addendum on using that guide with Win7' link and it seems good for now on my NW. All my drivers are in place, everything seems ok for now.

And the rest of the links seem like gold.
