    Hi All,
Where can I find the Windows 7 drivers for SZ series. Its a pity that sony just says that the hardware is not compatible. They just suck at the support which they should be providing and now us guys.
Hope I can get help from people who have tried the RC and can gain from that experience to install the full upgrade.
    Thanks in advance,

the last solution you can do is using the Vista driver. but im afraid that the Fn key wont works (e.g: brightness control).

If Sony had stated SZ being incompatible with Windows 7on their support page I would probably had been less angry. But what they said was our less than 2 year old (top of the line system at the time) does not meet the minimum requirement for Windows 7. That is just complete BS. Screw Sony! Never again will I purchase any Sony products.

Sony is trying to save themselves some work is all. It runs Windows 7 perfectly and they know it. Why commit time and effort on a 2 year old notebook. Considering how high end these are though, they should be willing to do it. After 6 years and 3 high end Sony notebooks my next will likely be something. They have really been dropping the ball. They may be 2 years old, but the people who spent the money on these should be treated a bit better than they are.

The good news though, I am working on a complete guide right now for 64bit, and yes, it all works. There are some quirks though which is why it's not a simple guide.

    Hi there.

    I do have a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ 780n (Canadian Model) 32bit - Vista Business.
Yesterday I did installthe Win 7 (RTM Version).

Is not that difficult. You can use the vista drivers for:
    - Video driver
    - Audio driver
    - Mouse point driver
    - Web cam driver
    - DVD ROM Driver
    - Input drivers (Game & etc)

Most of the rest of the drivers where installed by Windows 7 ant it works perfectly (Lan, Wireless, USBs, Hard Disk, SD Drive, Memory Stick Drive, fingerprint sensor, etc).

The only problems I'm having is:

1 - Can't install and can't get hot keys application (volume, etc) to work
2 - Can't install and can't get SDD Protection drivers & application to work
    3 - Can't install and can't get the Sony's version ArcSoft Magic-i (to face-tracking) to work
4 - Can't install and can't get the battery application to work
5 - The lasts updates from Windows Vista at Sony web site, enabled my Vaio to recognize and to work with 4GB. At windows 7, I can see the 4GB but only 3GB are available.

Do you guys have any clue?

Just finished installing Win 7 RTM on my VGN-SZ2XP/C

With the latest drivers from the sony ftp site you can get most of it working, I just have 2 issues remaining:

    - Fn function doesn't work for brightness/volume (but it does for scroll lock...)
    - 1 exclamation mark remaining in Device Manager with hardware-id: root\Bluetooth_com

Despite the stupid remarks by Sony it runs Win7 very smooth.....

I've been running Windows XP on my Sony SZ460N. Last night, I did a clean install of Windows 7, which installed perfectly. But it would only recognize a monitor size of 1024 x 768, wouldn't recognize the DVI out on my docking station so I could run my external monitor, couldn't use any of the F keys to toggle monitors, etc.

I went to the Sony website and of course they said my computer wasn't compatible.

    I then considered my options:

    1. Search out all the individual Vista drivers and hope they would work with Windows 7.
    2. Wipe the hard drive (again) and install Vista from my original Sony recovery CDs (which I purchased from Sony). Then perform an UPGRADE to Windows 7 rather than a clean install.

I chose option 2. I'm not done yet, but I'm hoping this works smoothly.

I'm just wishing that the clean install had been easier, and wondering if my laptop will run slower because it was upgraded from Vista than it would have had I stayed the course on the clean install path.

Its been noted several times and i have installed windows 7 beta, RC , and RTM on over 10 computer and i got the FN keys to work, its the matter of installed the drivers in correct order, i had same FN keys problem and few other things, but when i installed the drivers in correct order all my problems with win7 was sorted out. and i used vista drivers for like SZ4, and same with all the other various vaios i installed windows on.
and after each drivers everyone should remember that a restart is neccesary to get everything installed properly. this will fix the battery problem and all other problems too. if drivers arent installed properly then other things dont get recognized as they should even if its not relating. i cant remember the exact order if someone can write out the guide again it would be greatly appreciated, otherwise ill see if i can dig it up from the other threads again.

I have been told that the Vista driver would or should work in Windows 7. I am still very nervous about doing a clean install. When I tried to replace my hardrive myself I was HOSED. I was sold the WRONG set of recovery disks and it was a freakin' nighmare.

Also if someone could answer this question I'd appericiate it:

I know by doing a clean install you nuke the recovery partition made by Sony. Is that partition nessary for a Vista/7 recovery or is making a new partion with Vista/7 drivers the way to go ?

    Thanks for your help.

    I have a VGN-SZ220 2G of RAM 320 G HD and the Nvidia 7200 go grfx card.

Read the 64bit (it applies to 32bit as well) guide in my signature, it explains the battery problem. See step 6, though inyour case it's probably just incompatible. Try a version from a different SZ.

The buttons don't work because you missed a utility or driver.
