I would appreciate some help if anyone has the same problem

2 or 3 times a day my system hangs - by this I mean I get the donut spinning, and even though I can still move the cursor around I cant do anything, most importantly I cant close anything (I can click but nothing happens)

I cant get control manager up either so I am just left with the option of turning it off

Sony technical support have been unable to help

I had the same issue. I tired a number of things including removing all sony software and I still had the issue.
I did a reinstall using the recovery disks and so far I have not had any issues. It's been about 5 days with no problems so far.
However, even in the past, I could go 5 days without an issue as well, so I can't be positive the issue is solved.
One thing I have avoided so far, is installing Firefox. I can';t be sure the issue comes from this but many times I found that Firefox has left orphaned processes.
I made it a habit of leaving the task manager open when this happened. Usually, when the system became unresponsive I could do one more thing like click on the task manager before it was locked completely. However, this showed me nothing. It never updated anything.
The only other thing that may be related was some messages in the system log that stated that the file servers could not load something in my profile, as well as some registry entries that apparently were locked. Whether this was a result of the crash or led up to it, I do not know.
