I upgraded from windows home premium to Windows 7 beta. The installation took slightly 40 minutes to complete.

After installing Windows 7, I re-installed VAIO drivers for my laptop. My brightness keys work, but the black and white on screen indicator appears intermittently.

The volume function keys worked intermittently as well, sometimes with the on screen indicator. Now they do not function.

As far as performance goes, Windows 7 is incredibly snappy and I encourage anyone who is curious to try it out to do so. I downloaded Windows 7 and waited a while because I was apprehensive to try it out.

Windows 7 will easily be what Vista should have been. I am a Linux/Unix guy saying that.

If anyone has any advice on restoring function key operation with an upgrade vs. clean install, please let me know.

    bump.

I'd be interested in knowing too.

However, I believe a Windows 7 Release Candidate 1 is due to be released at the end of April or in May, and I would hope these issues will be addressed by then.

I have to agree: W7 is pretty neat, even on my older Vaio.
