Hi guys, I am running Windows 7 64-bit Beta on my NR310E and am proud to announce that they have brightness control built to the display properties so no more futzing with the FN keys. It remembers the last setting also which I think is brilliant. Wireless setup was a breeze too. :)

Windows 7 has not yet entered Beta, and is not expected to enter Beta until next year.

Didn't Vista have brightness control in Windows Mobility Center?

Yes I agree using the Fn keys is way easier than having to go into display properties and change settings there..

In 7 you can put the display properties in quick launch.

I've used Vista but I am not a fan. Honestly after farting around with 7 for a month I will go back to XP. I don't hate Vista, XP just suits me fine.

True but for me I have set it once and have not touched it since, it can also be added to quick launch so for me it is just as easy to adjust.

Yeah lol.. the Fn keys are definitely way easier.
You can change the settings whenever you want.. like say you wanna change the brightness when you go into a darker/or brighter environment.. Why go change the settings in the display properties when you can just press 2 keys on the keyboard and change the settings..

Why does everyone hate Vista so much?
I like Vista and all the ideas like the little bar of info that comes up on the right hand side if you want it, and the frest modern look it brings. :(
Is 7 on the horizon, i.e. worth waiting until a few months more to get, or not.
Gah! What I mean is when is 7 going to be released?

Well Windows 7 will be a lot faster than Vista, from what I've heard/seen, it can be run on a netbook with 512MB of ram just fine..
And I think it uses less power too, since it puts less stress on the system.
The new task bar is cool too!

In your opinion, Mr. Tiger, is it worth waiting for?
Will I be able to back up all my data from a Vista laptop and frest install 7?
    Thanks for any help :)

I would say it's worth it.
A lot of people are excited for it. it will be a big improvement over Vista.
Umm.. I'm pretty sure you can just upgrade to Windows 7.. without a fresh install.. everything in Vista will be compatible in Windows 7.

oh and btw, you can call me tony if you dont mind :D

I believe that Win7 will not be possible to use until at least SP1 as any other Windows before...so it's not worth waiting right now...

It would be awesome, but not financially feasible, to put Windows 7 out in beta, just like Vista, with the time constraint and such, but treat it as a formal release. Let it marinate, and then send out "SP1", and see how it fairs. Then when the operating system has the performance down, let it go public and pull the beta licenses. Of course there will be security issues and compatibility issue, but I am just asking for the performance to be where it is today with Vista, almost, to be at the same degree when they launch 7. Every os has updates and such, but if they can be formal about the beta launch, maybe the quality of updates will be better.

I'm fine with Vista but I don't love it. Overall, after tweaking it into the way that I want, I can live with it.
Well... I don't mind if Microsoft put in some good stuffs from Win 7 into vista sp2.
It will be easier for people to accept Win 7.

I was told by Dell that I can upgrade to Windows 7 and bypass Vista, which is what I intend to do.
