Just installed Windows 7 on a separate partition of my vaio SR. Things went surprisingly smooth. It picked up many drivers (unlike vista) right off the bat. ATI graphics, wifi, ethernet were all working. For the rest, I (re)installed drivers from esupport site for Vista 32 bit. The only minor problem I ran into was the Intel Chipset driver for which I had to run it in Vista Compatibility mode to install.
Has any other SR owner given windows 7 a shot?

I'm just install on mine. Smooth as silk ... there're few problems I would like to know if anyone have a solution

    - FN+F2/F3/F4 Mute/Volume Up/Volume Down is not working unless disable UAC
    - Wireless Switch Setting Utility doesn't work ( Version 3.6 )
    - I can't find Finger Print application .. it's not provided in Original Drive for VISTA

I might just be really stupid, but when i try to download windows 7 i either get dead links or indefinite loading through technet/Windows 7 webpage... can you guys please PM me and post how to freakin download Windows 7.

Also does the "Dock" work? You know the 5 icons that you can quick launch with the buttons on our laptop... in Win 7?

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx

Use internet explorer (FF and Chrome don't work) and allow the activeX stuff i think. Good luck. :)

Oh, I installed it last Saturday on a new partition.
Went very smoothly and almost everything worked of the bat, excluding fingerprint, and the card readers.
The volume Fn keys work but the others don't and neither do the On screen displays. I don't use them anyway.
Did not install ANY Sony junk (including) so I'm at about 30-33 process after booting. (wanted the lightest possible installation.)

The more i use chrome the more i realize it's buggy. First, Linksys and Buffalo's web-based router configurations will error out after i try to apply changes(had to use IE) and now microsoft's download site just freezes...

Apparently Chrome isnt as awesome as i thought...guess it needs some work.
    Thanks for the advice!

does the installation program of W7 let you create a partition or did you do that manually before running the setup?

I don't think FF and Chrome are buggy (neither work on the WIn7 website). I think this is because they don't use the activeX. Besides, there are other legitimate reasons to dislike Chrome :D

I upgraded from Vista and all my shortcut buttons work including Fn keys for brightness, volume, etc and the mode switch works fine.

Thanks for the idea.. I finally figured it out.
For the 'Mode' and 'Setting' button to work. I need to install application name "VAIO_MODE_SWITCH_1.0.00.05150" which can be obtained from SR XP Downgrade application on VAIO-LINK site. The application doesn't even require to be installed in compatibility mode in W7.

I wonder why this app is not included in original driver pack (VISTA)... maybe SONY forget or something ?

Here's my preset file. Change the extension from .txt to .ini and then import it into MultiMeter. You might have to go into the NET section once you've imported it to select the correct network adapter.
