    Hi!

The laptop was originally purchased in Japan since my friend study there and is only on occations (Christmas, Summer holiday) back here in Sweden, and it seems by purchasing it in Japan became an issue when it came to his computer. My friend and I decided to help him reformat and install Windows 7, since it works so well on his older desktop and as well for me - we used "PC Wizard" made by CPUID and got the following necessary preparation info:

    Intel GM965 (Chipset)
    Nvidia 8400M GS
    Intel 4965 AGN

And so i searched for the latest drivers for these but found out that GM965 is basically only a graphic driver and a ICH controller (i think), after some "buts" we made it work after a round with windows update finding the most necessary drivers. The real graphic driver was also a problem to get to work, the drivers for 8XXX Mobile series from Nvidia didn't seem to support his card nor did we find any relevant drivers on sony's support site. And so I improvised with laptopvideo2go.com and downloaded a hacked INF together with the driver, this worked.

The wired and wireless was apparently already installed when the Windows 7 installation was completed, but as my friend always for some reason got problems connecting to routers - this time even recently installed and fully working (according to Windows) it didn't find my wireless network, not even without any security enabled.

Here's a list that doesn't seem to work or has odd behaviour:

    - The wireless can't connect to any network regardless the signal strength (and yes the on and off button for it has been checked, it's on).
    - The fan runs at 100% speed, gives of an awful sound and is incredibly hot beneath.
    - One hardware wasn't able to be installed, it's only known as "Mass storage driver" in the device manager and PC Wizard couldn't detect what.
    - The small and possibly necessary amounts of Sony's own applications are missing, can't find the link or any download referring to these.

I also tried to install another wireless mPCIe card i had laying around but upon opening i was only able to physically access the RAM and the heatsink for the CPU, nothing else.

    Help needed and appreciated!

Check the sz750 thread in my signature, the mass storage driver is the Texas instruments driver.

Wireless, uninstall and let it re-install. If that fails, re-try Vista, there may be something wrong with it. That card works out of the box for others.

The fact that you are using the 8400 is probably why it is running so hot. Check my guide, because there is a bug that makes it the laptopvideo2go driver crash if you don't turn off a setting.

Keep in mind, Win7 runs perfectly fine on the Intel card. It even has Aero. The 8400 really was only meant for part time gaming use and considering the 8400 deaths recently, I would rather use it as little as possible. Plus, it just runs much cooler and quieter.

The Sony apps for the SZ750 will probably work on there. Same chipset and video card.

As for the noisy fan, at some point Sony changed it to a different design. The Sz750 being supposedly) the last of the Sz's made has it. Check Ebay or Sony. It is a direct swap. It may not hurt to remove the lower panel and try cleaning it too.
