In December 2012 Sony Vaio SVS13A1S9ES model laptop purchases with Windows 7. After upgrade to Win 8 drivers were installed from Sony : SVS13A1S9ES updates | Download updates for SVS13A1S9ES. Unfortunately STAMINIA-SPEED button was not working, following that the function keys F5 F6 keys not working. Vaio Upgrade tool was then installed from https://ebiz3.mentormediacorp.com/sony/windows8/EU/index.aspx and found 96 downloads and files. What needs to be done in order to have ayll the function keys such as F6-F7 to work properly.
    Help pls.

Device Manager - any drivers missing? Maybe the SFEP driver is missing, that was what was missing on mine and I could not adjust brightness and power options in Control Centre

Just read the 'Windows 7 clean install' guide for your model, and follow that procedure on Windows 8. You might have to install some of the Sony stuff in compatibility mode and/or with administrative privileges. I'm running Windows 8 on my 2010 VPCZ1 and everything is working (except maybe the SD card reader which I never use, so haven't paid much attention to).
