    Symptoms:

I get the spinning blue circle, and after a while the window or desktop turns white and I have to stop the explorer process.

    It happens when:

usually when I hit the delete button on a file / folder
sometimes when I copy / cut a file / folder
    sometimes when I right-click a file / folder
rarely when I just click on a file / folder

    I've tried:

    disabling shell extensions (didn't work)
turning on services that were mentioned by errors in the event viewer (didn't work)
deleting a bunch of folders in the registry that had to do with context menus (didn't work)

I'm completely out of ideas... if anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it...

    Let me guess...You`re running Vista?

You might be clicking on a video file that`s broken.

    Yup, running Vista.

I'm not sure if it does this for video files, but it definitely doesn't do it for ONLY video files. It happens for any file or folder from what I can tell.

How did you buy your laptop? did they do any optimization before you got it? Did you do any optimization by yourself?

I did a lot of tweaking on it. You're thinking I may have disabled too much perhaps?

I think so. Sony has been known for really understand their system. Regardless being filled with bloatware, a new laptop from Sony run very stable. Things start when user tries to cut trim down too much and that affects the operating system itself. Try to redo some of what you did to see how things go. Otherwise, you probably will have to live with it till when the next IE update is available (which is very soon)

i had a similar thing happen to me a couple of weeks ago. had to reformat by booting into safe mode then going into Vaio recovery center. didnt hesitate to reformat though cause i had everything backed up to my external hard drive. since then i havent done any tweaking (and i dont plan on doing any) so hopefully my systems stays stable.

oh and i too did tweaking to my vista early when i got it
