Symptoms:
I get the spinning blue circle, and after a while the window or desktop turns white and I have to stop the explorer process.
It happens when:
usually when I hit the delete button on a file / folder
sometimes when I copy / cut a file / folder
sometimes when I right-click a file / folder
rarely when I just click on a file / folder
I've tried:
disabling shell extensions (didn't work)
turning on services that were mentioned by errors in the event viewer (didn't work)
deleting a bunch of folders in the registry that had to do with context menus (didn't work)
I'm completely out of ideas... if anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it...

Let me guess...You`re running Vista?
You might be clicking on a video file that`s broken. -
Yup, running Vista.
I'm not sure if it does this for video files, but it definitely doesn't do it for ONLY video files. It happens for any file or folder from what I can tell. -
How did you buy your laptop? did they do any optimization before you got it? Did you do any optimization by yourself?
-
I did a lot of tweaking on it. You're thinking I may have disabled too much perhaps?
-
Yes most likely.

Slow internet connection? New anti-virus\firewall\internet security software?
