I had this issue on my new SR, even with the new audio drivers. I would click on an .mp3 and it would take 3-5 seconds to start playing. Now that I fixed it, things play instantly as normal. This issue seemed specific toward my VAIO SR only, thus I posted this in the Sony forum. Anyway, Do this:

    Right click on speaker icon
    Click playback devices
    Right click speaker/hp
    Click Properties
    Click enhancement tab
    Disable all effects
    Apply/ok

    Should fix it.
