I don't know if this has been discussed in another thread, but I am having a problem that has never existed before until Windows Vista & Windows 7.
When Windows 95, 98, 2000, ME, & XP would go into the power saving mode just to turn off the display, it would always work. Now with either Windows Vista or 7, it does not.
The screen will go blank, but my LCD backlight stays on. Is there a way to get around this?
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Is there anyone who can help me out with this? I'm really boggled about this issue.
-
Works fine here, on both laptops. Sorry, no idea
-
Works fine for me too.
I'd say there is something wrong with either:
Your laptop or your drivers. -
Yeah actually, on my E6400 sometimes the screen wouldn't shut off at all. That was because of dodgy GPU drivers, tried different ones and never had the issue again.
-
I thought about it being drivers, too. I've switched between them though to no avail. I'm not sure if there is a setting somewhere I forgot to switch or if there might be a patch and you guys are already updated. Hmmmm.....

It's possible. I'll take a quick look. Most of the time, like now, I use the mobility modder on my ATi drivers and use them that way. All of my apps seem to work and perform just fine, so I don't think my video driver may be the issue.
I have also just discovered something, too. When I go into the display settings and advanced settings, I click on the monitor tab and the properties button is grayed out. -

Well, these units are somewhat old, but are very powerful old units. The only reason I thought this was a Vista or 7 problem is because I have used every other OS which never had problems shutting off screens.
I think you might be right though that this has turned into a problem strictly with my Vaio rather than 7, because my brother just installed the same make of 7 on his MSI GT735 and his screen turns off properly and he has the properties button available to him as well as several other features.
I even just tried Sony's video shared library and that didn't seem to do anything at all. -
Ask a moderator to close this thread - once that is done, create a new one in the Sony subforum.
(Only after this has been closed, else its possibly crossposting).
Then:
1) Place the laptop series - AX - in the thread title
2) Give the name of the laptop (full model number)
3)Give the name of the graphics card
4) OS
And hope someone with an AX figured it outI don't have one - and my SZ has an NVidia card anyway.
I hope there is some solutionGood luck!

OK. Thanks!

Actually, this will be my last post in this thread. I thought this was actually an OS issue because my other OSes always worked.
You guys were helpful and I took into consideration checking the manufacturer's page for drivers. The manufacturer does not have any video drivers for vista or 7 and when I installed an older XP driver, I got my monitor settings.
For the closing statement, it is clearly a driver problem I am having and I will just spend my time tweaking the driver which I shouldn't have problems doing since I have had much experience with my ATi cards and their drivers.
Thanks everybody for your help and peace out! -
But there may be more to it than just settings...
(Sony specific driver functions for example)
Windows Vista & 7 not shutting off LCD screens
