    Hi All,

I have a Sony Vaio Laptop VGN-FE770G, bought it with Windows XP Media Center Edition upgradable to Vista. But I want to use Windows XP Professional, I bought Windows XP Pro SP3 included, and after it formats C, and restarts, it shows Windows XP logo (starting setup), then the screen becomes blank and nothing happens (the laptop doesn't get stuck though).

I tried to install it again, same problem. (knowing that I installed just now to test it, a windows xp pro sp2 version that we have at work, and it works fine, but I can;t keep it, its work copy)....

Is my laptop not compatible with SP3 ???

    Regards,
    Baha

You will most probably need sata drivers for the notebook and slipstream them into the XP install disk. There are several threads on this here.

I think this is not SATA driver related because Windows can format the C: drive.

is the C drive formatted as FAT32 or NTFS? that could be the problem. if the hard drive was previously formattted as NTFS make sure XP SP3 Pro setup is set to format the C drive as NTFS. changing hard drive formats when formatting the HD can lead to problems.

Do you have the recovery CD available for the original Windows that came with the laptop? Re-install the original windows (with all the included drivers). Then try upgrading to XP Pro, without formatting.
