I was waiting for the new Macbooks to come out, and since they decided to drop firewire, I'm about ready to tell Apple where to go. I like this model Vaio (VGN-FW290) but I am not crazy about Vista.

Has anyone successfully downgraded to XP on this model with no issues? (Or at the very least, install a clean version of Vista myself after wiping the drive)?

I have successfully done a clean install on a FW190, which is pretty much identical to the FW290 except the video chipset if you upgraded. Sony might not release official XP drivers for the FW290, but I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to use all the 190 drivers except the video.

Couldn't I just download the appropriate video driver from ATI?
