After two months of waiting, I finally got my Z1290. Everything seems good except that I found the i7 620M only has two cores. I thought all i7 were 4 cores. Had I known it is only 2 cores, I would have ordered i5.:-(

Because of the high resolution of the screen, the default font used by Windows 7 is too small to read. My current DPI setting is 125% of normal size, and I don't want to change it to a bigger number. Instead, I went to Personalize -> Window Color -> Advanced appearance settings... and changed font sizes of menu, icon, message, tip and title bar etc. However, I often lose my font setting when I restart Windows or when I remotely login to the system, and have to redo all the setting over and over. Of course, this is not a Z-issue. It is rather a Windows 7 issue, and I have the same issue on another Windows 7 desktop. I never have this issue in the earlier versions of Windows. Do you have experiences to deal with this issue? Do I have to go somewhere to explicitly save what I set up? Any clues will be highly appreciated.

You are right. I found this today when I checked Intel web site. I should have checked the site before I ordered.

Had it actually been a quad core it would have had a far lower clock speed and been slower for general use. mobile quads are about 1.73 before turbo boost.

I use three Windows 7 and one Vista installations, all with custom fonts and font sizes for borders/icons/text, and have never seen this issue. That you see it on several machines suggests that you may be running something that resets the fonts. Since fonts can be changed by themes, my initial guess would be a custom theme manager.

Thanks for this info. I do remember that I saw laptops at Bestbuy with i7 processors and they had 4 cores. So they must have used the desktop version of the processor.

Thanks for telling me your positive experience. I don't think I use any custom themes, but I will check it. When I got my Z, the first thing I did was to change all the font sizes from 9 to 12. But they all went back to 9 when I restarted the system. I have to admit that this problem does not always happen and sometimes the system does remember my setting. I haven't figured out under what situation the issue will definitely happen.

You can get quad mobiles, but as I said they run slower to fit in the thermal envelope, as such they are generally slower for general use then a faster dual core i7.
