I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NR110E, only thing replaced was the battery, so no "tattoo" issues, but the software, disks and OEM disks say "check model number" "error:89" and won' t reformat the computer and install to factory specs...Called Sony, they have no clue because they are Sony. Looking online people say this happens after a windows update. the model number is still in the BIOS, but the computer for some reason doesn't know what model number it is.

How can I get this to reformat or do I need to switch to ubuntu if I want to reformat?
