    New Vaio SR290 - came out of box installed with XP as downgrade option. Package included 2 recovery discs with the Vista Business OS.

    I want to install the Vista OS. I have made XP recovery disks via the Recovery Center just in case I need to go back to XP for some reason or something goes terribly awry with the Vista OS install.

    When I boot to the Vista recovery discs included with the computer, the recovery center comes up and I have several options, among them:

    1) Restore computer to factory new (w/Vista)
    2) Wipe/clean drive

    Here's my question(s):

    Should I first wipe the C drive before installing Vista via recovery? Since I am installing Vista on a computer that currently has an XP OS, I thought maybe this should be done first? Or maybe it's done automatically in the process when you restore to factory new?

    If I do wipe the drive, should I use the Sony software in the recovery disc for this or am I better off using other wipe software (boot n Nuke)?

    Thanks!
