I have a sony fw and like many others the hinge was loose. It eventually fell off leaving the wire exposed. After a while the wire broke. There is no way to charge my computer? How can i fix this? Glue the wire? see if the warranty is still valid? if it is how much will it cost? how much will it cost if it is not? Find someway to charge the battery(like if 3rd parties make battery charging stations) and use the computer that way? What are my options and their associated prices?

I'd appreciate any responses. It is very difficult to get by without a computer. You never realize how much you depend on it till its broken.

    Thank you.

    I don't have a digital camera unfortunatley.

I cant charge my computer. A major wire is broken. The wire is located where you plug in the charger.

isn't it possible to just remove the coating of the wires and bind them correctly?

    Thanks for your replies.

No problem, but not having an actual image of what happened i can't really help you.
What's been cut in half and what "red part"(the copper wire?)
Is it the actual plug that is broken or the wire?

I'l try and use an amazon image to make myself clearer.

You see the barrel hinge on the left most part of the picture? That is where the ac adapter connects to the computer. It fell off and the wire behind it became exposed and soon after broke.

i got it now, so you just need to solder it to the plug(barrel hinge).
if you're not too comfortable with this check if you have some warrenty left.

but the wire inside is broken. can you put it back together? hasn't the flow of current been permanently been broken? how would i reattach the wire portions?

The computer was bought almost two years ago but I will check the warranty just in case.

    2. 1 part connected to the place where the adapter plugs in. the other part attached to the rest of the computer.

like get the same wire and solder a small piece it in the middle?

not to sound stupid but what does soldering mean?

uhh "fuse" them together by melting the ends together and letting it cool... personally, i say see if you can fnd a replacement part... Oh and if you do solder it, make sure you wrap the exposed meal of the wire with some electrical tape...

None taken. I am quite aware that I am stupid when it comes to these things.

Who would do such a job and how much would it cost?

Google some pc repair places in your area, let them have a look at it and give you a quote. Or maybe you can get someone you know, who is competent with a soldering iron, to help you out.

Like the others said, the wires have to be properly soldered together and then insulated.

It doesnt have to be PC repair, any electrical place should be able to do soldering, or as mentioned a friend who is into electronics or engineering with a soldering iron and heatshrink / insulation tape should be able to to it no worries.

    Ok. Thanks for the advice.

What if i bought a tv that i could connect my computer to? Would that bypass the need? Cuz that would be fine. I use my laptop at home most of the time anyways.

If I understand correctly the power is not getting from the brick (wall) to the hardware (laptop). In which case, no, a TV will not work.

If the power is just not getting to the actual screen, then yes, a TV or monitor should work- unless the laptop knows there is a problem and forces something.
