Hi, out of the box, wireless on my sony SR190 with Intel 5100 a/b/g/n did not work!

Everytime I restart my PC I need to reinstall the intel drivers and smartWi connection utility - then restart my pc again, where it will work till the next time it shuts down or goes on hibernate.

Trying to debug without reinstalling the drivers - system does not detect the presence of wireless hardware all-together, and only BT (bluetooth) shows up under SmartWi

I tried restoring my system via the VAIO Recovery Center with no luck twice. Its a persistent problem.

I've even tried downgrading to XP - but the problem persists there too.

I've read that there can be interfence between Dual Band 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz dual band devices and BT??? But I don't think thats the problem because whilst running XP Ultimate - disabling BT did not bring about any changes.

    Really appreciate any help, thnx

    btw - Vista Business OS

I'm on a different wireless card, but I also had problems after downgrading with XP where the system wouldn't recognize my hardware. I solved the problem by uninstalling the Wireless Switch Settings Utility and not installing the SmartWi and just using the default Windows utility. See if that might work for you?

I have Z the same hardware as yours.
At home, I have Asus router with n-draft, it works perfect (strong and fast), but in office I have 3Com (4 years old) and is set to without SSID, I have to switch my wireless of my notebook on and off or connect and disconnect for many times before it is connected. may be there is a compatability issue between your router and your notebook.

    hmm ..
its seriously bugging me. I can still return my PC because its been less than 30 days - but knowing that its a software issue i really wanna solve it myself.

So - I've switched back to Vista - but I STILL have the same problem. It doesn't detect wireless hardware at all. I'm trying to download a generic wifi manager as we speak - so i'll let you know if that resolves the problem.

    Thnx for the replies guys!!!
