short: newly purchased vaio's (model vgn-n250) wireless switch indicator light not lighting up- can't find wireless networks-diagnostics says that wireless capability is turned off and to turn on the switch- but of course, it's already on.
is this likely a hardware problem? i emailed sony support and they gave me some links to drivers (i think?) to download and install- which i did with no luck.

this is my first notebook and attempt at wireless connection so any help is greatly appreciated. this site has been a great help already in research. I can still return it or I have the option to get it repaired by sony if its a hardware problem i guess.

detailed:I just purchased a Vaio on Thursday- It was a display model and I got a discount on it and everything seemed fine until Saturday, when I tried to connect to wireless again (worked one time before once I figured out how to do it). I have no router but before I could see what other connections were around even if I couldn't connect to them- but ever since none have been found and the problem given by diagnostics is that the switch isn't turned on even though it is.

It could be just the Windows wireless software is not turned on. There are a few variables, one is the Windows software, another is hardware, and there is another in that maybe the wireless router around you are off. There is also another possibility in that you are using something that might block signals to your machine, like a microwave.

It is hard to say what it is, because there is more than one variable. Maybe someone else can suggest something, but you have to try one by one. I think it is easier if you can get a knowledgable friend to look at the machine and help you out.
