I just purchased a used but well cared-for Z22 and the only thing that concerns me is that the screen is rather loose and can wobble either with very forceful typing on my lap or in a car. When I gently move the screen forward and back there seems to be a bit of "free-play" in the hinges. We're not talking very loose, like the Z1 hinges after a year without tightening them and/or after they cracked. But it seems looser than I remember feeling in the Z21 I owned for a while last year. There are absolutely no search results describing this issue with the Z2, only the Z1, which has a totally different hinge assembly.

    1) Does this sound "normal" for this model, or more like loose hinges
    2) Does anyone know how to tighten the hinges on a Z2? (For that matter, has anyone found a bootleg copy of a Z2 service manual?)

Thanks very much for your help.

Bump. C'mon, 102 people curious enough to look at this post but not a single one with an opinion or suggestion? Thank goodness for Skyshade, who noticed I had an issue and addressed it in the Z2 Owners' Lounge. This forum sure isn't what it used to be; no matter how basic the advice sought, there were usually 3-5 helpful responses within a few hours. Times change.

    Any thoughts?

I think it's just that people have jumped off the Z or Sony VAIO boat for one reason or another...

I thought both Asus & Samsung screens are glossy? I personally feel Lenovo X1 Carbon with matte 1600x900 IPS is the real threat to VZ11/Z2.

BTW, despite being washed with coffee, my Z2 is running like a champ still. :twitchy:

    Couple of points:

    1) Both the Asus and the Samsung have matte screens

    2) The X1 has a single, sealed battery, likely only 4-5 hrs battery life and nothing near the color gamut of the Z's 1080o - nor does the Samsung 9.

    3) FWIW, I have come back to my senses and am sending the Samsung 9 back to MS today - or offering it up for sale since it is now out of stock at MS. Just had to use it for an evening and go back to the Z's (Z13 and Z22) to realize how much more the Z's offer. Besides, the Samsung turns out to have a loud, clacky cheap sounding space bar, which started driving me crazy!

Finally, I'm really glad to hear you saved the Z2! Glad for you and glad that they unit could be revived. Not so fragile after all!

@Bobet; really glad you're enjoying your Z2. See comments above to modify my temporary insanity about the Samsung 9! Let me know if there are any accessories you wish you hadn't bought - perhaps i will want them.

    The accessories are worth it.
    1. Faux leather skin
    2. Matte screen protector
    3. TPU keyboard skin
    3. 128gb Sandisk SDXC
    4. Sheet battery
    5. Several sleeves and bags

#1-4 from Ebay, #5 bought locally. Still waiting for two 64gb microSD cards that I will put in a Photofast MS adapter.

Any news on the wobbly screen hinges? I've got it since a week or so now.
It looks like a lot of tolerance when you peak along the screen's plane towards the hinges :(

The tolerance in the hinge is at least a millimeter and it looks like it's off-centre. Can anyone confirm the position of the hinge parts?

(btw: wow, my z21 looks filthy when taking a macro zoom photo!)
