I have recently installed Vista and I made the restore discs before I made Vista. Is it worth keeping the restore partition on the computer?

well, some say yes others say no. It depends on whether or not you will be wanting to peform a system restore in the future or not.

I say no. You can make backup disks for this -- I say 2 backups at least.

The other day my ToshibaM45 had some rapid-destructive spyware issues I was unable to fix. I never really took care of it that much so mostly this was my fault. But when I used the recovery disks I found out that they had suffered many months of abuse -- and the recovery process could not continue! Now I'm in the process of calling Toshiba to get another copy of the OS -- which will cost even more money in addition the the failed AC internal that wobbled off the motherboard (I think?). Basically my M45 is down the crapper now...

    So make backups of backups!

Sensi, if you don't want your Toshiba M45 anymore, you can always part out all the individual parts & sell them separately. I'm sure there'll be someone out there who is looking to buy these parts. This will help you get as much money back from it as possible (save them for future laptop purchase) and you may also be able to help out someone...

No because hard drive space is very important. The backup takes up 6 GB which is 5% of your hard drive.

Burn 2 Copy of the restore CD just to be on the safe side. Thats what I did.

I also put the Image on my web space so when my laptop does break down during a holiday trip, I can always download and restore my laptop.

    2 Ways

Partition Magic: You can see the hidden partition with this program and easily delete it, very user friendly.

Recovery Disc: Just before you recovery your Sony laptop, there should be a check box asking something like "Would you like to delete your hidden partition...", something like that. Check it and continue with the recovery process. You should be able to see your free up space as soon as recovery is finish.

I dont want to do the Recovery Disc option because I've already installed Vista on the laptop. I've heard that Partition Magic does not work well with Vista...any of you guys had any experience with it and Vista?

check out Gparted. It's a Linux app that will run off a bootcd and let you easily manipulate your partitions. It's 100% free too.

gparted.sourceforge.net should be the address. I've used it many times and it works great.

Let me know how it goes, I'm contemplating deleting it too but too lazy right now. :D

Yeah I'm going to have to wait till later this week to do it. It ends up being that whenever I start messing with my laptop I waste lots of time doing it and I have a big test and project due on Thursday...
