I'm still within the 1 year that I purchased my VPCZ1 (VaioZ) Apart from the fact that my keys have become quite shiny, a have 2 "squeek" like sounds. The first is from my "f1-f6" keys which make a "squeaky" sound and the other is my palmrest on the right hand side makes a loud sqeaky sound when gently pushed. Being within the 1 year manufacture warranty from Sony, would they cover something like this?

I would call Sony and ask. The worn keys will not be covered, as they are a "cosmetic issue." I have a feeling that Sony won't be too agreeable to covering the "squeaky" keys and palm rest either.

My right part of the palm rest also makes a small squeaky noise when gently pressed the first time. It doesn't do it the second time. But if you leave it alone for some time (maybe 10 minutes or so), it will happen again.

This has been the case ever since I got my Z122GX.

I too experienced a squeak/groan from the palm rest (out of the box) with my VPC-Z11. After disassembling and reassembling the laptop, the squeak is gone. My suspicion is that one of the screws holding down the palm rest wasn't snug. I suspect the same is true for yours.

A word of caution, however, if you're considering doing this fix yourself. While the Z11 is easier to work on than the Z690 and its predecesors, the ribbon cable that connects the keyboard (top) half with the bottom half is rather short and it is all to easy to accidentally unhook it - even if only partially - when putting the 2 halves back together. I found it to require a bit of cautious dexterity to manage it. Also note that if that cable is even partially disconnected, the laptop may not power on. The last tech to service my laptop required 4 tries to get it right.

When I had VGN Z690, I sent it to sony's repair center for a squeaky key and they replaced the whole palm rest for free.

i'll try my luck with sony and see how things roll around. and yeah... I think I'm a bit too nervous to disassemble/reassemble my Laptop to fix the palmrest squeak, even though I'm sure your right about the screw :p hopefully whoever i'm talking to is in a generous mood :)
