I was thinking of ordering an SZ Vaio laptop from the US (for US keyboard purposes which seem hard to get over here in Belgium as well as the price being slightly cheaper). Would it work here in Europe though if all I did was swap the delivered (US) AC Adapter with one for a (central) European model?

the us ac adapter will work in europe, don't even need to replace it.

There is no need to change the AC adaptor. They are all (as far as I know) rated at 100-240V 50/60Hz and will work just about anywhere where there is electricity.
You will need an adaptor for the mains plug or get a new mains lead.

Oh that's awesome guys. Thanks for the info. I think I may just order an SZ from the States as soon as it comes out with Santa Rosa probably. Would save about 700EUR with the nice exchange rate also.
No other reasons why I should stick to a European shop really no? -
Are you sure that you will not pay a lot of taxes (customs) from the US to Europe?

You need to consider the lack of warranty coverage in europe.
I think that sony provides US models 1 year warranty but ONLY in the states.
I live in Europe also and I was set for a SZ which here costs 2.500EUR but in the states only 1.500EUR !!!
But the warranty issues changed my mind and now I'm thinking the business line of HP,
which provides a 3 year WORLDWIDE warranty (or at least it says so)...
Nevertheless there is an expansion warranty +2 years in europe which claims to support all vaio models,
I've emailed sony about it but got no answer...
Something to think about....
Would a Vaio bought in US work in Europe?
