Just idly wondering - in terms of runtime, dimensions, weight and general features the X is pretty much what I want. It's just that Atom - it would be unusable for me, and it's about the only thing which is stopping me even considering it.

Concerning the footprint, I am sure it is possible to cram a core-i in, but it would be much thicker and not fanless like the current X.

Are we talking about ULV core i's? Cause I highly doubt it would ever get a full core i

It could very well see it with a core i3 or maybe of one of those dual core atom D. The last one looks a lot more likely.

Even a D is like a base Core Duo ULV from >4 years ago. I did mean a ULV i3 or something along those lines.

it would be great if it happened but now that I think about it, even the bigger/heavier 11.1" Y series doesn't have a ULV..although the dual core AMD is stil much faster than the Atom. I know the 13" Y series had i3/i5 ULV's but that's probably too big for you. Don't forget though that even with the ULV, it still means less than half of the claimed 12 hour battery life and probably heavier/thicker to accommodate a fan.
