Hi everyone...Long time reader first time poster. Thanks in advance for your anticipated repsonses.

So....here is the skinny. I have a FJ270/B. Yes, I see now that they discontinued it, but hey, I love it. Anyways...

I did a clean install with a fresh copy of XP. I left the 6gb partition intact.

I am missing a feature, though. I used to be able to adjust the level of brightness for the screen and create/edit the different proflies.

It seems that I am missing that level of customization now.

Separately, I was wondering if anyone knew if within that 6gb partition, there are all the factory installed settings, including the original XP install. Wishful thinking, I am sure.

    Thanks for reading.

No, if that partition is 6GB it could very well have the factory installation and a program to restore that installation. I'm not sure how you would activate it though...pressing an F key at boot up would do it though.

Be prepared though: you need to back up your personal data to another drive and be ready to delete any bloatware that is on the computer again.

However, try going to the driver page for your notebook and look up any drivers or software that is some type of system software. At least with Dell & HP, you have to install one of their programs for a majority of the special function buttons to work.

Thanks. My lain concern is that adjustment to the screen level. It had like 9 different levels of adjustment.

Here's the link to the original drivers for the FJ270/b. You probably want the stuff listed under "Notebook Control and Utilities", I'd imagine.

As a further FYI, you might want to look at this page.

    Hope that helps!
