Don't know if any of you customize your xp installations like the boot/login screen and such but I happen upon a site with a "very" nice vaio login, check it out...thought some of you might use it....

By using those style customization programs/packs it will degrade your system performance a decent amount.

most of these screens are made in 16 color palette, so unless you are a gamer, the performance hit which is extremely small should be negilible

There is a big theming thread by Aero that used to be a sticky in the software section
As for resource use, minimum 1gb ram. I run StyleXP with a black vista style skin. But I have the process turned off as I have no need for boot or logon skinning.
To say it will "degrade your system performance a decent amount" is a little generalist. Depends what you run. I have 5 yahoo widget engine processes running and that uses <50mb... so really effect is minimal. In fact I leave the engine on for gaming and notice no slowdown in F.E.A.R! And as I said, I don't have stylexp running in the background, so I get a better look with no effect on system running -
I have changed my boot screen manually by changing the ntoskrnl.exe or using BootXP. I have changed the original one to an "Albert Einstein" boot screen.

It will degrade performance it just matters if the program/pack is buggy or not. There are some quality ones out there that won't really make a big impact, but then again there are others that will just watch out.
